  • My husband does most of our plumbing, so I am well aware of this phrase, and it also applies to fireplaces, woodstoves, electrical repairs, and cooking. My favorite (from a literary standpoint but not from a wife standpoint)was just before we were due to move into our new house, in which my husband, who really is quite talented, did all the finish work. One day he came home to where we were temporarily living, and said, "Well, good news!" ...pause... "That new carpet doesn't burn."
We lived in that house for ten years with a little rug covering the "melt" marks in the nylon carpet in front of the fireplace, from whence the burning logs rolled when he didn't close the gates on the fireplace.
