    Attending MLA in order to listen to the papers is a little like going to a bordello out of a taste for piano music. It reflects a certain confusion about the nature of the place. To persist in the mistake for very long would suggest a profound insensitivity to ambiance.

    The analogy isn't perfect. Presumably someone at a bordello is having a good time.
