Who reads Inside Higher Ed?

More than 1.2 million higher ed professionals a month from every academic discipline and every administrative area (site traffic measured by Google Analytics). About 40% of our readers are academics, about 32% are line administrators, and nearly 14% are executives. Readership is proportional throughout the country, and about 12% of our readers are outside the U.S. Our readers come from every kind of institution; about 15% are at community colleges. And our readers are very diverse: nearly 20% are minorities and more than 50% are women. Request a summary of our latest reader survey by writing to recruit@insidehighered.com.

How does my ad reach these readers?

Like any job board, Inside Higher Ed posts your job announcement to our jobs database. But unlike any other job board we make it work a lot harder to reach your best candidates. First, when searching our database, candidates return not just a job title and institution name, but the introduction to your ad text. Second, we display appropriately related jobs with our editorial content. This means that someone reading a story about an innovative new idea in admissions will be presented with admissions jobs (a significant portion of the traffic to our job postings comes via these links – meaning we’re delivering the passive candidates you most want to reach). Finally, for an small additional fee you can purchase a Premium Posting, which includes a featured link in our Daily News Update opt-in subscriber e-mail (now reaching 100,000 subscribers) to really boost attention.

Any bonus distribution?

Inside Higher Ed partners with Indeed.com and Simply Hired (the job engine that powers searches on LinkedIn) to extend the reach of your job postings. Jobs posted to Inside Higher Ed are automatically posted to our partner sites -- and updates and expirations are automatic as well.

How does Inside Higher Ed help me reach a diverse candidate pool?

A lot of recruiting sites offer services that purport to help you reach diverse candidates. Unfortunately, these services are generally well-named, but woefully ineffective. At Inside Higher Ed, we take a different approach – by publishing an inclusive, compelling professional journal and offering it free online, we have gathered the most diverse readership of any higher education publication. Our unique advantages for diversity recruiting include: Free content - Higher education is most diverse among budget conscious younger academics and institutions such as community colleges. Our free content model means everyone in higher education is part of our audience. Inclusive coverage - When diverse readers and people at diverse institutions come to our site, they find themselves and their institutions and issues covered. Help for academic couples - Our Dual Career search quickly identifies jobs for both partners and spotlights them by location. In seconds, academic couples can find proximate jobs – and that can be the key to your institution landing a great diversity hire. Reach to passive candidates – Inside Higher Ed lets you broaden your search to include the qualified diversity candidates who aren’t on the job market, but might be intrigued by an exciting new opportunity. From featured jobs in our daily news update e-mail to jobs displayed with appropriate editorial content to display advertising throughout the Web site, Inside Higher Ed connects you with great diversity candidates whether they search our jobs database or not. And now, add a Diversity Profile to your Featured Employer page. Your Diversity Profile is linked to every job you post on Inside Higher Ed. An eye-catching logo alerts job seekers that your institution has provided in-depth information for diversity candidates.

Does posting a job on Inside Higher Ed fulfill the Department of Labor requirements under 20 CFR 656.18, Optional Special Recruitment and Documentation Procedures for College and University Teachers?

Why yes! Here's what the Department of Labor has to say: Yes, an employer may use an electronic or web-based national professional journal to satisfy the regulatory provision at 20 CFR § 656.18(b)(3), which requires use of a national professional journal for advertisements for college or university teachers. The advertisement for the job opportunity for which certification is sought must be posted for at least 30 calendar days on the journal's website. Documentation of the placement of an advertisement in an electronic or web-based national professional journal must include evidence of the start and end dates of the advertisement placement and the text of the advertisement. In fact, the successful challenge to the old print advertising rule by the University of Texas at Brownsville was over the right to be certified for foreign hiring on the basis of an ad on Inside Higher Ed. How do I pay for a job posting on Inside Higher Ed?

You can pay by credit card at the time you post. When you purchase a package of prepaid posting credits or a Spotlight Ad you can pay by credit card or choose to be invoiced.

How do I pay an invoice?

Inside Higher Ed emails PDF invoices within a week of approving your purchase. If invoices should go to a different email address than the one on your account, you'll be able to fill in the appropriate email during the purchasing process. Invoices can be paid by check or credit card - instructions will be included. If you have questions about your invoice, or need another copy, please contact Raisa Andrzheychik at billing@insidehighered.com or +1-202-448-6123.

How do I make changes to a job posting?

Once you’ve posted a job, you’ll have an Inside Higher Ed recruiter account (we use your email address as your username and a password of your choosing). Log in at careers.insidehighered.com – you’ll see a link to “manage posts” in the right side of the screen. From this screen you can edit or delete job posts. Need help? Give us a call at +1-202-659-9208 with questions or email us at recruit@insidehighered.com.

What is a Premium Posting?

A Premium Posting is a job posting with a whole lot of extra oomph. For just $150 more we'll add your institution's logo to your posting. In addition, we include a link to your posting in one day’s edition of our Daily News Update email – read by more than 100,000 opt-in subscribers each morning. And your ad will appear on the Inside Higher Ed home page in the Featured Jobs column. Talk about extra exposure! Need help? Give us a call at +1-202-659-9208 with questions or email us at recruit@insidehighered.com.

What is a Spotlight Ad?

Running a Spotlight Ad is the best way to reach passive candidates reading Inside Higher Ed. For an additional $995 added to any job posting, we’ll create a full-color 300x250 pixel banner ad to run in a prominent position on the Inside Higher Ed home page, as well as on the jobs pages themselves. (Click here for more information about how banner advertising works.) Both banner ads are linked to a full page, full-color stand-alone web page for your job announcement (designed at no cost by our staff and approved by you). When users click on either the banner ad, or the link to your posting in search results or job alert emails, they’re directed to this eye-catching web page rather than a standard text listing. We’ll even include a link to your job in one day’s edition of our popular Daily News Update subscriber email – currently reaching more than 100,000 opt-in subscribers. Spotlight Ads on Inside Higher Ed are the single most effective way to reach a wide audience of higher ed professionals – whether they’re on the job market or not. Need help? Give us a call at +1-202-659-9208 with questions or email us at recruit@insidehighered.com.

Can I automate my job postings?

Inside Higher Ed recognizes that smart recruiting can involve a lot of data entry - posting jobs on website after website is time consuming and inefficient. Now Inside Higher Ed offers a solution – a direct feed from your jobs database to ours that eliminates the need for a single keystroke to post jobs. With a bit of assistance from your IT department, it’s a simple matter to set up a daily feed of all your job postings, or to allow users to tag individual jobs posted to your website for automatic cross-posting to Inside Higher Ed. Inside Higher Ed is running successful API integrations via PeopleAdmin, Interview Exchange, SilkRoad and other ATS providers. There's no charge to create your own API feed, but if you prefer, Inside Higher Ed can now offer "site scraping" for a $500 fee. And we work with JobTarget and Jobelephant to automate postings for institutions that don’t have the capability to create an API feed on their own. See our API specification here or get in touch with Kathlene Collins, Publisher of Inside Higher Ed, at +1-202-448-6129 or kathlene.collins@insidehighered.com for a copy of the API specifications or to learn more.

Does Inside Higher Ed provide statistical reporting on my ads?

Absolutely. For each ad posted, Inside Higher Ed reports on the number of views your ad received, the number of times the "apply now" link was clicked, as well as the number of times the ad was saved, printed or emailed. A report on all activity for each account is automatically sent at the end of each month to the person who posted the job. Need help? Give us a call at +1-202-659-9208 with questions or email us at recruit@insidehighered.com.

How does your credential bank work?

Registered recruiters at Inside Higher Ed can search our resume bank at no charge. Simply log in at careers.insidehighered.com and click the link on your dashboard for “browse resumes.”  Need help? Give us a call at +1-202-659-9208 with questions or email us at recruit@insidehighered.com.

What is a Featured Employer Page?

A Featured Employer page is your own recruitment page within the Inside Higher Ed site. Using our simple template you can put key information and multiple links to your own website – organized for the specific needs of job candidates – on a single page that’s linked to all your job postings. Your institution's logo and a link to your profile will be included in our Featured Employer directory, and we highlight featured employers throughout the jobs portion of the website for added exposure. Featured Employer pages are priced at $1,000 per year. That’s less than $20 a week for a recruitment site that works for you 365 days a year. Or purchase an unlimited job posting package and the profile is included in the cost. Give your account manager a call for more information (see below for account manager territories). And now you can add a Diversity Profile to your Featured Employer page. Your Diversity Profile is linked to every job you post on Inside Higher Ed. An eye-catching logo alerts job seekers that your institution has provided in-depth information for diversity candidates.  Need help? Give us a call at +1-202-659-9208 with questions or email us at recruit@insidehighered.com.
