New Online Enrollment Data From State Reciprocity Agreement

October 31, 2018

The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) has released an annual report on institutional enrollment data, including breakdowns of enrollments of in-state and out-of-state online students. California is currently the only state that does not report to NC-SARA or participate in the agreement, which was established in 2013 to set consistent standards for distance education across the country.

The new data bear some similarities to Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System numbers reported annually by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics. The NC-SARA report includes recommendations for improving IPEDS data, which has drawn criticism from administrators who sometimes struggle to meet its reporting requirements.

More details on online enrollments can be found in the report and on the agreement's enrollments webpage.
