Your site doesn't work with my Web browser. What's going on?

The Inside Higher Ed Web site is designed using the latest standard Web technologies, including XHTML and CSS, which allows pages to load faster, display more accurately, and work in alternative browsing devices such as text-only, braille and text-to-speech browsers.

For best performance, we recommend that you enable JavaScript and check this list of compatible browsers. You can check your browser's version by going to the "Help" drop-down menu and selecting "About (your browser's name)." If you're using an older browser, please consider upgrading to a newer version -- not just to browse our Web site, but for the enhanced security and other features it will offer.

  • Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher for Windows. Due to IE's incomplete support for XHTML and CSS standards, some visual effects are disabled for this browser.
  • Mozilla-based browsers including (but not limited to): Firefox 1.0 and higher, Mozilla Suite 1.4 and higher, Netscape 7.1 and higher. This includes versions of these browsers for Windows, Mac OS and *nix. In general, any browser that uses version 1.4 or higher of the Mozilla Gecko rendering engine (such as recent versions of Galeon and Camino) should also work fine.
  • Safari 1.2 and higher for Mac OS X 10.3, and browsers such as OmniCab that share the KHTML rendering engine.
  • Konqueror 3.2 and higher for *nix.
  • Opera 7.0 and higher.
