A federal judge on Thursday threw out a lawsuit filed by two female students who accused the University of Colorado at Boulder of creating an environment that resulted in their being raped by football players, the Associated Press reported. The lawsuit played a significant role in bringing about the recruiting scandal that has engulfed the university and helped end the presidency of Elizabeth Hoffman.
The Massachusetts Board of Higher Education voted 8 to 3 Thursday to reject a plan by the the University of Massachusetts to transform the private Southern New England School of Law into the state's first public law school. Board officials cited a series of legal and financial concerns in opposing the university's proposal, The Boston Globe reported, and Gov. Mitt Romney revealed after the vote that he had encouraged board members to vote against the pla.
Westchester County can't cite the New York Medical College for anti-gay discrimination because of the college's affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church. Officials ruled that the religious link means that the college has the right to maintain a policy of refusing to recognize a group of gay students, according to an article by the Associated Press.
