Quick Takes: Layoffs at DeVry, Florida Dumps Coca-Cola for $27 Million, Bequest for Wellesley Power Plant

DeVry, Inc. announced Thursday that it had eliminated the jobs of 134 faculty members -- a mix of full-time and part-time positions -- following enrollment declines at DeVry campuses. The layoffs will eventually result in $6 million in savings annually.

Pepsi outbid Coca-Cola by $7 million and won a $27 million contract for the right to sell its products exclusively at the University of Florida, reported The Gainesville Sun.

An article in The Boston Globe tells the story of an unusual alumna's $27 million bequest to Wellesley College -- with most of the funds designated to support its power plant.
