The percentage of colleges outsourcing one or more information technology functions increased to 53 percent from 48 percent in the last year, according to a report from Educause. The report also found increases in the percentage of IT officials serving in presidential cabinets, an increase in IT staff positions, and also an increase in the ratio of students to IT staff members.
Louisiana State University officials said Wednesday that two hospitals they run in New Orleans can't be salvaged from Katrina-related damage. But the officials vowed to rebuild the hospitals, which treat more than 500,000 patients a year.
