Quick Takes: $435 Million for Nano Research at Albany, Mob Allegations Prompt Contract Review at Illinois-Chicago

  • New York State officials announced Tuesday that a $435 million Nanoelectronics Research Institute would be located at the site of another nanotechnology institute at the State University of New York at Albany. The new institute -- with support from the federal and state governments and businesses -- will involve researchers at SUNY-Albany and also from Harvard, Purdue, and Yale Universities, the Georgia and Massachusetts Institutes of Technology, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
  • The University of Illinois at Chicago is reviewing a snowplowing contract after reports surfaced that the agreement is with a company with ties to organized crime, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
