Quick Takes: St. Olaf Professor Wins $200,000 Teaching Prize, Higher Ed Commission Will Hold Hearing in Seattle

  • Anton Armstrong, director of the St. Olaf College Choir, has been named the 2006 recipient of the Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching -- considered the most lucrative prize for college teaching. Armstrong will receive $200,000 and St. Olaf's music department will receive $25,000. The award is sponsored by Baylor University.
  • The U.S. Secretary of Education's Commission on the Future of Higher Education has announced that it will hold a public hearing in Seattle on Feb. 7. The commission will also have a full meeting next month in San Diego, for which it released an agenda that will focus on "innovation."
