- Edward L. Ayers, dean of the college and graduate school of arts and sciences at the University of Virginia, has been named president of the University of Richmond.
- Stanley F. Battle, president of Coppin State University, in Maryland, has been elected chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University.
- Karen Lawrence, dean of the School of Humanities at the University of California at Irvine, has been selected as president of Sarah Lawrence College, in Bronxville, N.Y.
- Daniel J. Martin, vice president for university advancement at Point Loma Nazarene University, in San Diego, has been chosen as president of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, in Ohio.
- Richard Pizer, provost and vice president for academic affairs at the City University of New York's Hunter College, has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at New York Institute of Technology.
