  • Some alumni and donors are asking questions about payments of $578,000 that Lawrence Davenport will receive as he leaves a position as chief fund raiser for Florida Atlantic University after one year in the job, The Sun-Sentinel reported. University officials said that Davenport and the institution were parting "amicably" because he wants to apply to be a president elsewhere. Under Davenport's contract, he is due severance only if he is fired, which the university says was not the case.
  • Some business ethics experts are raising questions about some (high priced) advice prominent academics are providing Maurice R. Greenberg, who is facing charges of improper accounting, The Boston Globe reported. Scholars affiliated with top business and law schools are billing Greenberg at rates of $400 to $1,000 an hour to help rehabilitate his image, the Globe reported.
  • Ohio Dominican University will require all students to take a multiculturalism course, starting in the fall, in response to a series of incidents involving racist graffiti, the Associated Press reported.
  • It's the cover up that gets 'em every time. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that Tory Schaaf, a student at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, was so upset that the student newspaper was publishing a notice of his underage drinking citation that he gathered all the copies he could find of the paper and burned them. That action is now leading to publicity throughout the region.
  • A new reality television show in India will offer winners full undergraduate scholarships at participating British universities, The Guardian reported. Thousands of contestants are expected in "Scholar Hunt UK," and exams will be provided to be sure that the finalists meet entrance standards.
