‘Quick Takes: Conflicts of Interest in Study Abroad’
I read the article in The New York Times with great concern and disappointment. The facts presented in this article should shock the community of Study Abroad, and require a fast reaction from USA Colleges and Universities. Study Abroad’s goals are cultural immersion and academic enrichment. Vested interests ("goodies"), whether institutional or personal, should be condemned and rejected since they are non-ethical. The Rothberg International School of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which hosts several hundreds of undergraduate students worldwide per year, has never recurred to commercial firms for recruiting its students. We are proud and honored by the direct and productive relations established in the last fifty years with more than 100 institutions of higher learning in the USA, Canada and Europe.I hope that non-proper and non-ethical conduct will be fully erradicated from the Study Abroad scene.
