Hundreds of veterans rallied at Hampshire College Sunday to demand that the college resume flying the U.S. flag, MassLive.com reported. Hampshire announced this month that for some period of time it would not fly the U.S. flag or any flag from a flagpole at the center of campus. Hampshire is among the colleges that have seen flag burnings since the election. It has been flying the U.S. flag at half-staff at the request of students, and while some students and employees wanted the flag to fly in its regular position, others wanted it down. Many of the veterans carried flags and posted photographs to social media showing all the flags at the college for the protest (above right). Speakers said it was disrespectful to the United States and its veterans to keep the flag down. One man carried a sign denouncing "feminist witches." Jonathan Lash, president of the college, met with some of the veterans prior to the rally.
