The digital magazine Aeon, a popular outlet for long-form academic writing, on Tuesday announced a number of changes to its business model that it said will better support the "free flow of ideas." The magazine, which launched in 2012, has restructured itself as a nonprofit, and will now publish some shorter articles under a Creative Commons license that can be republished by anyone. Aeon will also copublish articles with cultural organizations, research centers and university presses -- such as a recent article by University of Chicago professor Martha C. Nussbaum, published in partnership with Oxford University Press. The magazine's readers will immediately notice a difference -- the website has a new, ad-free design.
