New York University announced Thursday that it will adopt a $15 per hour minimum wage for student workers in 2018-19. Currently, NYU student workers are covered by New York State's $9 minimum wage. The university will raise the minimum wage in stages, starting with $12 an hour next year. A memo to the campus from Andrew Hamilton, the new president of NYU, said that the move was part of a series of steps to make NYU affordable, and that many students he has met have raised the issue.
