Welcome to Auburn University, a comprehensive land-grant and research institution that has provided instruction, research and outreach to benefit the state and nation for more than 150 years. Today, AU offers degrees in more than 140 areas across a spectrum of disciplines.

Auburn University is a great place to learn and work because it invests in extensive national assessments to obtain quality, data-driven information for measuring and continually improving instruction and student preparation. Because of its commitment to academic excellence, Auburn has been ranked in the top 50 of public institutions for the past 15 years by U.S. News & World Report and is among the top 15 percent of colleges ranked by the Princeton Review.

The university’s positive environment also led a 2005 Harvard survey to rank AU as one of the top six colleges and universities in the country as a place for young faculty to work, which has a lot to do with actively engaging students.

In another recent survey, more than 92 percent of our students and more than 95 percent of our alumni said that if they could start college over again, they would choose Auburn.

AU is the primary source of instruction and research for Alabama’s aerospace, automotive, microelectronics, biotech, and wireless industries. The university also provides the principal academic support for Alabama agricultural, construction and manufacturing industries, which represent hundreds of thousands of employees. It supports these industries with research that results in new product development, and product innovation.

Auburn University is not only known for its great education, its also has notability for its impact on the state of Alabama. A recent study determined AU had nearly $ 4 billion economic impact on the state of Alabama, including a $ 1.5 billion impact on the economy and a $ 2.4 billion impact in “human capital.” AU’s Technical Assistance Center, a collaborative Engineering/Business outreach unit, performs hundreds of projects annually for state industry, generating millions of dollars in increased efficiencies and saving or creating hundreds of jobs statewide.

The main campus had a fall 2007 enrollment of 24,137. Auburn University offers degrees in 12 schools and colleges at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels.

Auburn University has developed into one of the largest universities in the South, remaining in the educational forefront with a growing international presence: 536 students studied abroad in 2004-2005, and more than 800 students from around the world attend AU. Auburn has 388 international faculty and scholars and more than 800 students which came from more than 80 nations.

The Auburn-Opelika metro area, where AU is located, was named the sixth fastest-growing, small metro area in the nation mainly because of the expansion of small- and medium-sized businesses.
