Founded in 1877, Jackson State University is Mississippi’s Urban University. JSU’s main campus on John R. Lynch Street and three satellite campuses serve as the anchors for unique technology and community partnerships. With 100 percent of its programs accredited regionally or nationally, JSU is a leading producer of African Americans earning degrees at various levels.

As a “high research activity” university, JSU generates more than $66 million in federal and other sponsored program awards. The university consistently ranks among the top two producers of African Americans with baccalaureates in education.

With an enrollment of 8,700 students, Jackson State – the state’s fourth largest university and the only one in the capital city – provides students from more than 50 foreign countries and nearly all of Mississippi’s 82 counties with the academic opportunities to develop knowledge and skills to succeed. Long-term cooperative projects and initiatives strengthen the university=s service to public schools, business and industry, the west Jackson community, the city, state, nation and several countries.
