University of the Incarnate Word
One of the leading universities in Texas, the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) strives to educate men and women who will become concerned and enlightened citizens with values developed in the Judeo-Christian tradition.
The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word founded Incarnate Word College in 1881, and the College became the University of the Incarnate Word in 1996. UIW is now the largest Catholic university in the Southwest, the fourth-largest private university in Texas, and one of four private universities in the state with an enrollment of at least 6,000 students.
UIW offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate fields of study, including the Ph.D. in Education and a doctoral degree in pharmacy. With an overall student-to-faculty classroom ratio of 14:1, UIW is a wireless campus that provides students with an environment that encourages excellence in academics.
The student population reflects the diversity of South Texas, as more than 60 percent of its students belong to a racial or ethnic minority group. In addition, 10 percent of the student body is international, representing more than 55 countries.
Incarnate Word has agreements for reciprocal education with more than 90 universities in over 30 countries, and operates academic sites in China and Mexico, where it is authorized to award accredited UIW degrees by the host countries.
UIW also operates academic sites in Goodyear, Ariz., and Corpus Christi, Texas.
