The Board of Trustees of the Peralta Community College District, which is located in California's East Bay, has chosen Regina Stanback Stroud, former president of Skyline College, to serve as the district's next chancellor, according to the district's spokesman.

The decision, made at a meeting Tuesday, comes shortly after the district released plans to right the ship after a worrying review from a state auditing agency declared that Peralta is at high risk financially.

Stanback Stroud has more than 35 years of experience, including as a professor, dean, administrator and eventually president and president emerita. She faces the difficult task of uniting stakeholders as the district undergoes dramatic changes, including reorganization of administrative staff and evaluation of fiscal practices.

Frances White, the acting chancellor, also announced her resignation, effective Oct. 20.
