Maria Shine Stewart

Maria Shine Stewart seeks to build bridges between the humanities and the social sciences focusing on writing across the lifespan, wellness, humor, the creative process and the prevention of burnout. She holds graduate degrees in counseling and in English and remembers feeling surprised -- if not skeptical -- when a teacher in a career orientation class said “prepare for seven careers over a lifetime -- not just jobs, careers." "A Kinder Campus" explores human relations in the academy with anecdotal and research support for the idea that when we work kinder, we work better. Civility and collegiality count, so stock up and spread them around. Submit column ideas to mariashinestewart@gmail.com.

"If thou thinkest twice before thou speakest once, thou wilt speak twice the better for it."
