Back to Campus

The spring semester has begun and we administrators are once again coming to terms with a sobering reality: They’re back.

They’re back and they’re everywhere; the buzz is palpable. Parking is nearly impossible, causing us to arrive at work ever earlier to compete for coveted spots. Long lines in the cafeteria have started to appear. The gym is that much more crowded. They’re even beginning to inhabit the library, but never in great numbers.

Mark J. Drozdowski is director of corporate, foundation, and government relations at Franklin Pierce College, in Rindge, N.H.

Comparing cars to schools is specious

In an article from the Pennsylvania Gazette dated 1999 the author compared Franconia College with a Yugo, saying that both were ephemeral.

I suppose it was an exercise in levity, but those of us who attended the college (it closed in 1977 I think) do not remember seeing Mark on campus. In fact I checked the list of names and do not see him mentioned. He must have been a child when the school shut its doors forever.

The comparison is offensive, boorish and contrary to fact. One can only surmise he heard about it somewhere and thought it would be funny. Perhaps a more apt comparison would have been to fully loaded Snap-on tool chest loaded with universal tools that allow you to tackle any problem with aplomb and sang-froid.Please, Mr. Drozdowski, confine your opinions to those matters of which you have factual knowledge and not things that you heard about third hand.
