There are few individuals in this world that I am in awe of, and feel pity for at the same time. Stephen Hawking is one, and then that squirrel I saw fall out of a tree yesterday. Not sure if a squirrel is an individual though, maybe part of a collective. Discuss.

Luminous writing friend. And I mean that as a great compliment. Having gone through a veritable and proverbial fecal storm however, I can assure you that your estimates of how many people would stand with you in the midst of that storm are wildly overgenerous. Even though these are people you have known for years, even though you are the godfather of their children, even though you have played on various teams together, been a member of their inner sanctum and have been there to see their children struggle to live and even breathe...

Well, suffice it to say that sadly most of those people will not be there to hold your hair back whilst you heave into their prized rose bushes. Friendships mimic the larger world these days, disposable and enjoyed only while convienient and easy.

Things fade in these latter days. The love of books, knowledge of card games, playing a musical instrument... How many people under 20 enjoy those activites? For most, those things can’t hold a candle to video games and myspace. But even greater then those losses are the alarming losses in compassion and caring for fellow woman and man. This has become a myspace, me first existance and anyone that enjoys a truely deep, meanful friendship with even one other person outside of direct relations is abundently blessed.

Are you ever concerned that your own artistic arc will be defined only by this blog? That the voice and reality you deliver here will be taken as a true representation of the real you (that this single, purposeful effort will eventually be viewed as a whole representation)?

Isn’t it true that if someone seeks Oronte Churm on the internet, that this stance you’ve pasted up here is the person they will find? And, in the end, if you do nothing else in the public’s view — Mr. J.T. Anybody, seeking to know the person behind Oronte Churm will sidle up the great card catalog of the Internet and find your index card (which has already been slipped out, tossed away and then replaced by one with the following words: “Oronte Churm. He wrote out of the corner of his mouth, slyly, with an eye on who might be coming in the door behind him to take his Twinkies.")
