As usual — right on target. It’s somehow strangely comforting (and humorous) to recognize that we’ve all got the same challenges!

Low Country Parking

That reminds me of the second visiting professor’s position in Charleston, SC. When I went to apply for my parking permit, I was told a was a “temp” (i.e. lowest status). I was asked what building I was in and then then took a map and measured which parking lot was physically furthest from my office! It ended up being alomst a mile away! And it was expensive...a big semester parking fee.

I’d put my bike into my tired Ford Escort, drive the 16 miles to the lot, and bike in the rest of the way. I was lucky. I was only hit by a car once!

Parking is a hierarchal experience!

Of course, now in Maine its quite the opposite. I can see my car from my office under three feet of snow in the winter when its -26 degrees and I live closer to campus than my parking lot was to my office in Charleston. Ice is cheap too!

Parking

On our campus, we have a poster of a full parking lot with the caption” Thank a Distance Ed Student!”
