Biography
I grew up some in southeastern Tennessee and then some more in Delaware. I spent a lot of my time making up stories, drawing pictures and singing (often to audiences of trees). I now, miraculously, make a living doing the same things. Besides Inside Higher Ed, my work appears in The Missouri Review, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Reader's Digest, and many other publications. In 2005, Phoebe and Chub (Rising Moon), a children's picture book I wrote, was published, and in 2008, What They Didn't Teach You In Graduate School (Stylus Publishing), a book for which I created cartoons, came out in print. I've also had the amazing honor to have read with Lemony Snicket (or rather, Daniel Handler, "the official representative of Lemony Snicket in all legal, literary, and social matters") and the former US poet laureate, Billy Collins. On a regular basis I now sing to audiences of people (and occasionally trees) and have opened shows for Richie Havens and Los Lobos. Please visit my website at www.matthewhenryhall.com
