The National Conference on Student Recruitment, Marketing, and Retention (July 26-28, Denver, CO) is one of the marquee events for higher education professionals who work within what's known as "the funnel." According to the NCSRMR Twitter account, there are already more than 500 professionals who have signed up for the event.

I started doing laundry when I was in my teens. When I began attending community college in the mid-90's I was fairly adept at making sure that I had enough clean clothes. The laundromat was a popular hangout as it was connected to a pool hall. I played a lot of billiards while waiting for clothes to wash/dry. Quarters were useful for starting loads of laundry and for holding your place at the pool table.

When I was a kid growing up in Iowa, my Uncle John and my dad taught me how to shoot. I fired rifles, shotguns, and pistols. The first time I fired my dad's twelve gauge shotgun, it felt like my shoulder had run into a car. The recoil was tremendous. While I never went hunting, I did do a fair amount of target shooting. Guns were present throughout my formative years. I've always been fascinated with the mechanics of firearms. Why am I bringing this up?

The month of May has been terrifically busy for me. I moved 3,000 miles from Corvallis, Oregon to Columbia, South Carolina. That's right, a Beaver alum has entered Gamecock country. Many have asked why I made the move from the Pacific Northwest to the Southeast. The answer is very simple: I fell in love.
