Thriving in a Multicultural Environment 

From our the increasing diversity of our faculty, staff and student body to academic programs that foster a bigger worldview to multicultural events and organizations, we’re committed to an experience informed by a multiplicity of ideas and perspectives.

An example of our inclusiveness is seen across our undergraduate student body, which represents 45 U.S. states, 54 countries and 30 languages. Nearly 50% are students from underrepresented groups, and more than 10% hail from other countries.

Creating Opportunities for Dialogue and Change

Our Office of Student Life sponsors 125+clubs and organizations, many focused on multicultural awareness. Students create and participate in identity-based groups like Black Student Association, PRIDE, Women Empowerment and Hillel Toppers; organizations dedicated to causes such as Habitat for Humanity, Pangea Educational Development and Amnesty International; and several foreign language clubs.

Student Life’s Multicultural Leadership Board promotes dozens of programs that educate the campus community and facilitate positive dialogue and change. Events include the Multicultural Fair, Cesar Chavez Week, Lunar New Year, Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Dawali, Eid Al-Fitr and Yom Kippur. 

Serving Hispanic and Latino Students

St. Edward’s has been recognized for having the highest graduation rate of any Hispanic-serving institution in the U.S. by The Chronicle of Higher Education and is repeatedly listed among Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine’s “Best Schools for Hispanic Students.” And Bestcolleges.com ranks St. Edward’s as #5 on its 2016 list of “Best Colleges for Hispanic Students.”

Championing Diversity and Inclusion

With more than 470 faculty members from 38 countries and 14 U.S. states, efforts to increase the diversity of our faculty at St. Edward’s are ongoing. Our Faculty Committee on Diversity and Inclusion supports a civil and robust dialogue about the value of a diverse faculty. The committee has created and distributed “Promoting a Diverse Faculty” report, designed a faculty diversity fellowship, regularly participates in faculty employment search workshops, gives national academic conference presentations, and is developing a faculty mentorship program. 

Embracing Differences Through Unity

A primary focus of Campus Ministry at St. Edward’s is to advance peace and justice in the world by working to eliminate racial, religious, cultural and gender-based barriers. With 40+ faith traditions represented on campus, Campus Ministry engages our community to embrace differences. They foster an inclusive, safe and inviting environment where students, faculty and staff can share their own religious or nonreligious beliefs in fellowship with others, and find common ground through unity.

Living, Learning and Serving Together

Our emphasis on service and improving the world means our Social Justice Living Learning Community (LLC) is one of the largest on campus. In this active LLC, highly motivated students and faculty from various academic fields share their passion for creating a more fair and ethical society.

Teaching a Global Perspective
Today’s graduates live and work in a culturally, economically, religiously and politically interdependent world. Academics at St. Edward’s are infused with global learning — from Cultural Foundations classes and international degree programs to video-conferencing classrooms that bring together students and faculty in different countries.

And every St. Edward’s student is encouraged to study abroad. Our expanding network of 21 international partner universities in 16 countries gives students countless chances to experience other cultures and fully engage in a world rich in opportunity and complexity. 

Hosting Critical World Forums

The Kozmetsky Center of Excellence in Global Finance at St. Edward’s welcomes experts, scholars and leaders to campus for lectures, classroom visits and panel discussions on critical global issues. The center prepares students to better understand national and international economic, social and political complexities and their local consequences, and encourages students to take an active role in shaping more equitable societies.

Advocating for CAMP Students

St. Edward’s is home to the nation’s longest, continuously running College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). Since 1972, CAMP at St. Edward’s has assisted more than 2,700 students of migrant farmworker families, helping them achieve their dream of a college education.
