Quick Takes: 'Mother Jones' Honors Campus Activists, Anthropologists Move 2006 Meeting

August 30, 2005
  • Mother Jones magazine has released its annual honors for campus activism. Among those praised are the Princeton University students who staged their own filibusters to protest the plans by Sen. Bill Frist, the Republican Senate leader and a Princeton alumnus, to kill off the filibuster; Washington University in St. Louis students who staged a lengthy sit-in for better wages for campus employees; and Calvin College students and faculty members who protested a speech by President Bush.
  • The American Anthropological Association has become the latest scholarly group to change plans to meet in San Francisco. The anthropologist were scheduled to meet there in 2006, but moved the sessions to San Jose because of continued labor strife at San Francisco hotels.
