New Presidents or Provosts: Raritan Valley CC, Lehigh U., Kent State U., Drew U., Plymouth State U., Sitting Bull College

The following colleges and universities have named new presidents or provosts:

  • Casey Crabill, president of College of the Redwoods, in Eureka, Calif., is the new president of Raritan Valley Community College, in North Branch, N.J.
  • Alice P. Gast, vice president for research and associate provost at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was chosen Tuesday to become president of Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, Pa.
  • Lester Lefton, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at Tulane University, was selected Tuesday as president of Kent State University, in Kent, Ohio.
  • Pamela Gunter-Smith, Porter Professor of Physiology at Spelman College, in Atlanta, has been appointed provost and academic vice president at Drew University.
  • Sara Jayne Steen, dean of the College of Letters and Science at Montana State University, has been named president of Plymouth State University, in New Hampshire.
  • Laurel Vermillion, interim president of Sitting Bull College, in Fort Yates, N.D., has been named to the position on a permanent basis.
