Rev. Tony Harris on Thursday announced that he would quit as vice president of Seattle University amid controversy over allegations that he was accused 10 years ago -- in a case that was settled -- of harassing a seminary student, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported. In e-mail to students and faculty members, Father Harris said it would be "a distraction" for the university for him to stay.

A California appeals court ruled Wednesday that police could not enter the dormitory room of a student without a warrant, even if invited to do so by campus security officers. The court found that because the risks associated with the search were faced by the student who lived there, not his institution (in this case Santa Clara University), only the student could consent to the search.
