Mid-level administrators are getting better raises this year than they did last year, according to data released by the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources.
The median salary for such administrators increased by 3 percent in 2004-5, compared to 2.1 percent the prior academic year. The CUPA-HR data suggest that the raises may be particularly welcome at public institutions. The increase in the median at public institutions was 3.0 percent, compared to 1.7 percent last year. At private institutions, the increase of 3.1 percent was only marginally higher than last year's increase of 3.0 percent.
Comparing the increase in median salary by sector, it is a good year for community colleges, where the median is up by 3.7 percent. All other sectors are at 3.0 or 3.1.
The job category with the largest median increase is accounting and finance, with a 3.3 percent increase. All other categories saw their medians increase by either 3.0 or 3.1 percent.
