Temple University announced Tuesday that John Chaney would return as its men's basketball coach next season, even though the coach was roundly condemned for ordering one of his players onto the court to aggressively foul opponents. Many commentators had urged Temple to fire Chaney, but President David Adamany said that the coach's five-game suspension would suffice. "This matter has come to rest," Adamany said.
In the latest of a series of hacking incidents in higher education, California State University at Chico announced that hackers had obtained personal information about 59,000 current and former students and faculty members, the Associated Press reported. University officials said that all affected people have been notified.
Nine students at Texas Lutheran University and two alumni have been charged by state officials with illegal hazing. The 11 men -- all members of Kappa Pi Alpha -- face charges of hazing, humiliation and exposure to the elements, according to a report on KSAT. Authorities said that eight people were injured in the alleged hazing.
