Jennifer Lundquist and Joya Misra

Jennifer Lundquist is co-author with Joya Misra on a series of Inside Higher Education advice columns aimed at faculty. She is Associate Dean of Research and Faculty Development in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Professor of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. A sociologist and demographer, her research examines how racial, ethnic and gender inequalities are perpetuated and sometimes undone in various institutions, such as the workplace, the dating/marriage market and in families. She uses her expertise to examine faculty lives in various research projects with Joya Misra and works to create supportive work life policies and faculty development initiatives at UMass Amherst. Joya Misra is co-author with Jennifer Lundquist on a series of Inside Higher Education advice columns aimed at faculty. She is Professor of Sociology & Public Policy at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Misra's research primarily is aimed at understanding how policies can create more equitable societies, with a particular emphasis on labor market inequalities. Much of her research compares different countries, and considers how to create meaningful support for both work and life. She has brought her expertise to examine faculty lives in research projects with a number of colleagues. She has also worked with administrators and the faculty union to create supportive policies and environments at UMass Amherst. She is currently involved in KerryAnn O'Meara's NSF-funded project on Faculty Workload and Rewards across three states. Misra and her husband are parents of two children.
