When I visited the offices of Blackboard Mobile this summer, the topic was mostly about their new mobile platform. However, one of the demos that they showed me was for a new mobile-friendly polls solution. The first project from Blackboard Labs, Polls is a free polling solution that is exceptionally easy to use. Responses can be submitted via an iPhone app, a web browser (mobile or desktop), or via text message. The functionality of Polls is similar to the popular Poll Everywhere product. However, Polls is currently free for anyone to use while Poll Anywhere does have a pricing structure. During Blackboard's annual developers conference (Bb World), Polls was used by the mobile team to generate real-time responses from audience members. The best thing that I can say about Polls is that it just works. It's a simple tool. In essence, it's perfect for real-time mobile input...simple really is better.

It will be interesting to see what other projects come out of the Blackboard Labs initiative. Additionally, Polls may not always be a free service, but for now...I'd use it for all of my real-time polling needs. I'm already thinking about using it during some of my upcoming conference presentations.

What do you think...Will you use Polls by Blackboard?
