A professor of microbiology at New York University's medical school is donating an estimated $105 million to the institution, The New York Times reported Thursday. Jan T. Vilcek made a fortune helping to discover a drug that treats autoimmune diseases like Crohn's disease and is giving the medical school cash and rights to some future royalties, the newspaper said.
Both the faculty union and the union for non-faculty employees at Youngstown State University are planning strikes for later this month, The Youngstown Vindicator reported.
Two biotechnology companies have settled a suit they brought against Columbia University in a royalty dispute, The Boston Globe reported. Parties in the dispute declined to provide details on the agreement.
Liberty University has loosened its dress code a bit, allowing limited use of sweatshirts, "modest" shorts, and "neat jeans," according to WSLS News.
The Hawaii College of Pharmacy, embroiled in fights with state officials, is shutting down, reported KITV News. State officials have charged the college with falsely implying that it is about to gain accreditation -- an accusation denied by college officials.
