  • After a professor at Iowa State University voiced support for "intelligent design" theories as an alternative to evolution, 120 professors signed a statement that they "reject all attempts to represent Intelligent Design as a scientific endeavor."
  • Federal auditors found two violations of student-aid regulations at the University of Phoenix, but also found that the for-profit giant was largely in compliance with rules for loans and grants, The Arizona Republic reported. Phoenix officials disagreed with the violations, but said that they were generally pleased with the findings.
  • A freshman at Bowling Green State University has been charged with assault after police said that she hit her roommate in the head with a hot iron -- with such force that the iron broke, the Associated Press reported. The woman who was charged -- and who has been ordered by a judge to stay off campus -- told authorities that her roommate fell out of bed and hit the iron. The AP reported that the injured roommate had a skull fracture, bruises, cuts and burns.
