The University of California system announced Thursday that it has uncovered a fraud scheme involving unwitting students. The students were recruited to what they were told were clinical trials, but the purpose was to obtain information about the students so those behind the scheme could obtain medical prescriptions in their names. The fraud reached almost $12 million in such prescriptions, which were not for the students or for real clinical trials. The university is seeking an injunction to block the activity involved.
