Early Behavioral Issues, Gender and College Attainment

A new study finds that behavioral problems in early childhood have more of a negative eventual impact on the high school completion and college attainment of boys than of girls. The impact is in part because young boys are more likely to have behavioral problems, but also because -- among children with similar behavioral problems -- the impact is greater for boys. The study is by Jayanti Owens, a sociologist at Brown University, and has just been published in the journal Sociology in Education.
