Zimpher Will Step Down as SUNY Chancellor

Nancy Zimpher, chancellor of the State University of New York System for the last seven years, announced Tuesday that she will step down next June. Zimpher pushed for the massive SUNY system to act more like a system in setting priorities and helping to revive the New York State economy. She pushed to reform teaching education programs. And she built close relations with the Obama administration. In particular she called for what she dubbed a "rational" tuition policy, where the tuition increases would be regular and modest, but with SUNY able to use the revenue. Previously, New York State simply took the extra tuition funds, and increases fluctuated widely. In photo above right, Zimpher appears with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
