Spring parties at large universities frequently result in clashes with police, arrests and vandalism. This weekend saw altercations and arrests at the University of Connecticut and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, among other campuses. At Kent State University, a similar situation developed and police fired pellets and used pepper spray to gain control of the situation. The Associated Press reported that the incident marked the first violent clash between students and the police at Kent State since the National Guard killed four students there during an anti-war protest in 1970.
