The U.S. Education Department's Family Policy Compliance Office has published guidance for colleges and universities on their obligations for reporting information about their students when the U.S. Census Bureau comes calling on their campuses for the 2010 population census. Census officials will visit campuses on three occasions between this month and next spring to collect data about residential students, the department notes, providing colleges advice on what they may and may not release under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
