Bob Kerrey, a former U.S. senator from Nebraska, has dropped out of plans to give the commencement speech this year at Creighton University, The World-Herald reported. He did so shortly after Ryan Hamilton, executive director of the Republican Party in Nebraska, asked Creighton to rescind the invitation because of Kerrey's support for abortion rights. Kerrey said that he believed commencement “should be a moment of celebration” and should “not be interrupted with politics.”
