Police in North Carolina arrested a 19-year-old student at High Point University Tuesday after confiscating two firearms and ammunition, which the student allegedly planned to use in a timeline he had drawn up for committing violence on the campus, a local television station reported.

The High Point, N.C., police released a statement saying that the student, Paul Arnold Steber, had been charged with two counts of bringing weapons on campus or other educational property and was being held on a $2 million bond. News accounts said police found probable cause that Steber had been plotting to “shoot up the school” and “kill people.” A third charge, one count of communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property, was added, with an additional $1 million bond.

High Point University released a statement characterizing the event as an “unfortunate situation” and emphasized that safety and security were the university’s top priorities.
