The State University of New York at Oneonta and its American Federation of Teachers-affiliated faculty union, after four years of discussions, struck a deal that benefits part-time faculty members, they announced last week. The memorandum of understanding creates an evaluation system for part-timers paralleling that of full-time faculty members and provides opportunities for career advancement.

Part-timers at Oneonta with at least four years of continuous service and a master’s degree or higher may apply for a two-year contract, salary adjustment and title of adjunct assistant professor this year. Candidates with at least seven years of continuous service and a terminal degree may apply next fall for a two-year contract and the rank and pay of adjunct associate professor. Candidates with 12 years of continuous service may apply for the rank adjunct professor in 2021. Teaching development funds are available this semester.
