A $5.3 million endowment to the University of Mississippi will be pulled and moved instead to the CREATE Foundation in Tupelo, Miss., the Oxford Eagle reports.

Ed Meek and his wife, Becky, the donors, originally intended for the money to go to the School of Journalism and New Media. The University of Mississippi Foundation will pay back the endowment over the next 30 days.

The aforementioned school used to bear the Meek name, until it was removed following a September 2018 Facebook post by the benefactor, which was criticized for being racist after negatively portraying photos of two black women on a night out in Oxford, Miss.

The CREATE Foundation "unites professional advisors and their clients with the charitable needs" of Northeast Mississippi, according to its website.

Ed Meek is an alum of the Ole Miss master of arts journalism program and holds a bachelor of journalism business administration.
