UC Merced Adds Teaching Professor Faculty Rank

About 20 instructors at the University of California, Merced, hold the new title of teaching professor this term. The university says that these professors are part of a faculty group called lecturers with potential security of employment. Different from professors and lecturers, these instructors hold teaching-intensive positions and are members of the Academic Senate. The new label, which was approved by multiple campus committees and the Senate, is meant to more clearly communicate teaching professors’ expertise and their other campus roles.
