The University of Virginia will receive a $100 million gift to benefit first-generation college students.

The donation is from David and Jane Walentas. David Walentas is an alumnus of UVA and was a first-generation college student himself.

Three-quarters of the gift will be to provide scholarships and fellowships to first-generation UVA students, and the remaining $25 million will be used to establish fellowships and professorships through the Jefferson Scholars Foundation and the Darden School of Business.

Graduate fellowships for first-generation students pursuing a full-time M.B.A. will be established through the Jefferson Scholars Foundation in partnership with the Darden School of Business.
