Subscription Model FAQ
What is a subscription model?
Beginning this April, some Inside Higher Ed’s content will require a subscription after you reach the monthly free article limit. However, we are planning to keep many resources open and outside of the three free article limit, including surveys, reports, opinion articles, webinars, podcasts and student success journalism.
When will the subscription model launch?
We anticipate an April launch and will communicate clearly and frequently as we approach it.
Why are you doing this now?
Introducing a subscription model now allows us to invest in deeper reporting and long-term sustainability while continuing to keep many resources freely available. How many free articles will I be able to read without a subscription?
Readers will be able to access up to three articles per month without a subscription.
Will the newsletters still be free?
Yes. Newsletters will remain free and continue delivering curated news, research and updates.
Will the subscription model affect my ability to search and apply for jobs on Inside Higher Ed’s job board?
No. Job searching on Inside Higher Ed’s job board will remain fully open. You can browse, search and apply to job listings exactly as you do today.
I am an Insider. What happens to my Insider membership when the new subscription model launches?
Anyone with an active Insider membership as of March 31, 2026, will be grandfathered into the new subscription model. You will get full subscription access and Insider benefits for $119, plus two renewals at $119 each. Read more here in the Insider FAQ.
Can I subscribe now?
Not yet — subscriptions will be available starting in April. We are looking to offer a pre-sale offering in March. We’ll share details, including pricing and sign-up instructions, as we get closer to launch.
In the meantime, if you would like, you can inform your librarians and institutional leaders about the upcoming subscription model and share this link, https://solutions.insidehighered.com/institutional-subscription-library, so that they can learn about our institutional subscriptions. Institution subscriptions provide full campus access through a single subscription.
How much will a subscription cost?
Pricing for individual subscriptions is still being finalized. We are working hard to ensure pricing is fair, accessible and aligned with the needs of the higher education community. Full details will be shared before launch.
Will you be offering institution subscriptions?
Yes. We are offering campuswide access to Inside Higher Ed’s news and analysis for colleges, universities, nonprofits, foundations and companies. Organizations can inquire today and be fully set up for our April launch. Our dedicated team is ready to assist. Learn more: https://solutions.insidehighered.com/institutional-subscription-library.
Will you provide receipts for reimbursement?
Yes. Subscribers will receive a receipt immediately after submitting payment and it will be sent to their email address.
What about privacy?
At this time, we are not anticipating a change to our privacy policy. We will continue to uphold our existing privacy policy. If, for any reason, we need to make changes, we will update our community at that time.
