May I link to your articles? Please do so - and you don't even need to ask.

May I reprint your articles or illustrations? Send a request to permissions@insidehighered.com explaining what you would like to reprint and who you are, and we'll reply as soon as possible. Generally, we grant accredited educational institutions free reprint rights for staff-written material, provided that the material is not edited and is properly credited. Fees may apply to other requests. The copyrights to many columns and illustrations are held by the authors and illustrators, not Inside Higher Ed, so we can't grant permission on those requests, but we'll put you in touch with those who can.

May I syndicate Inside Higher Ed content? Send an e-mail outlining your needs to permissions@insidehighered.com

May I reprint job ads? The content of those ads belongs to the institutions advertising, so please seek their permission. Links to our job listings are always welcome, however, and you don't need to request permission.

How do I suggest story ideas? We get many of our best ideas from readers, so please send in your tips and ideas to editor@insidehighered.com.

How do you decide what to cover? Each day, the editors and reporters develop stories based on a number of goals. We want our news coverage and opinion pieces to be timely and relevant, but we also try to have each day's coverage represent the broad array of institutions, people and issues in higher education. If there are areas of coverage you would like to see emphasized more or improved, please let us know: editor@insidehighered.com

May I write an opinion piece? Inside Higher Ed runs opinion pieces (called Views) every day -- on policy issues, culture, academic careers and more. We welcome reader contributions and encourage you to propose ideas. There is no one tone or subject matter for which we look. But on policy issues, we are very interested in timeliness, so pieces that can be turned around quickly will have the best chance of being accepted. Generally, think of our pieces as newspaper op-eds, not journal essays. Our website is open to all views, so if you see a piece on one side of an issue, don't hesitate to propose something that takes the opposite stand -- in fact, the timing may be perfect for such a piece. And don't hold back on your views -- whatever they are -- we love strongly argued pieces (and much prefer them to mushy "on the one hand, on the other hand" articles). Length can vary from 500 to 2,000 words, depending on the topic, with most pieces running between 800 and 1,200 words. Your best bet is to send a quick summary of your idea to editor@insidehighered.com before you write up a piece, so you can get feedback from the editors, but you are welcome to send in completed pieces as well.

May I comment on stories, either for public view or not? The editors also welcome your comments and feedback on articles. Please send to editor@insidehighered.com.

How do I report an error or request a correction? Inside Higher Ed strives for accuracy and is vigilant about correcting errors of fact. If you see an error, please notify us at editor@insidehighered.com When we find an error in an archived article, we correct the article so that the error is not repeated (and note in the article when anything more than cosmetic changes have been made).
