When my novel (due out July 1) was accepted for publication, I announced it here under the title, “Hot Dog! My First Book!”. Today I have the pleasure to say I’ve signed a contract for my second book, a brief nonfiction history of the community where my novel is set, with The History Press.
I’ll be working on the project all summer, reading, researching, doing interviews, making site visits, and searching archives for historical documents and photos. I love this sort of work, and in the end I expect that meeting the deadline will be no more painful than the process shown here in a period sketch on display at Chicago’s International Museum of Surgical Science. (Crazy Larry took me to go see the gallstones.)

I first learned of The History Press in Erika’s free monthly e-newsletter, The Practicing Writer, which lists resources and publishing opportunities for writers and poets. Practicing Writing is one of the few RSS feeds I make sure to actually read on a daily basis, and has become as invaluable as sites such as New Pages or the listings in the back of Poets & Writers or The Writer’s Chronicle.
